Opposition Chief Whip David Lee says it is time Mark Loquan resigns at president of the National Gas Company.
Lee, who is the United National Congress' shadow minister of energy, says Loquan's tenure at the helm of the state-owned company has been a failure.
He made the comments during a virtual press conference held by the UNC today to address issues highlighted in a Guardian Media exclusive which stated that the NGC board was seeking personal indemnity following the possibility of the company losing hundreds of millions in an ill-fated LNG deal.
"I would call on the resignation of Mr Loquan because firstly we understand that Mr Loquan's contract was renewed recently without entire board oversight and Mr Loquan's contract, or his performance over the years since he became president of NGC has been a failure," Lee said.
Loquan was appointed NGC president in September 2016.
"Now Mr Loquan, from what we understand is a very good procurement individual that was his speciality when he was at Yara. He is now running a billion dollar company that gives healthy dividends to this country and Mr Loquan's performance has been a failure in the Opposition view and it is time that Mr Loquan resigns," he said.
