A 52-year-old man is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion fol­low­ing a chop­ping in­ci­dent in Ma­yaro yes­ter­day af­ter­noon. A woman was al­so in­jured.

Po­lice said around 4 pm, Mukesh Ramkissoon, 52, of St Anns Vil­lage, and the 26-year-old sus­pect were in­volved in a heat­ed ar­gu­ment that turned vi­o­lent. The sus­pect chopped Ramkissoon on his head and about his body and threat­ened to kill him. The woman, Neisha Mo­hammed, 54, suf­fered mi­nor in­juries. The po­lice ar­rest­ed the sus­pect at the scene. With the as­sis­tance of vil­lagers, the po­lice took Ramkissoon to the Ma­yaro Health Fa­cil­i­ty, where he was ex­am­ined and trans­ferred to the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal. Ramkissoon suf­fered mul­ti­ple lac­er­a­tions to his head, left thigh, left arm, back and left thumb.

The fe­male vic­tim suf­fered no lac­er­a­tions but re­ceived an in­jury to her eye and an­kle. She is in a sta­ble con­di­tion at the hos­pi­tal. The po­lice seized the cut­lass.
