A Couva mechanic and used car dealer has been charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Larceny Trick following investigations by officers of the Stolen Vehicles Squad.
The 44-year-old suspect from Couva was arrested on 30th September 2025 after surrendering to police. The charges stem from a report involving a white Nissan Tiida stolen from the Carenage Police District on 22nd August 2023.
Police said the vehicle was recovered on 25th February 2024 at Bonne Aventure Road, Mayo, Gasparillo, without registration plates. Further inquiries revealed that the suspect sold the vehicle to a buyer in Couva on 22nd February 2024, knowing it had been stolen.
Following advice from the CID/CRO Legal Department, charges were laid by Cpl. Neaves of the Stolen Vehicles Squad. The accused appeared virtually before High Court Master Whitney Franklyn on 3rd October 2025 and was granted bail in the sum of $60,000. The matter was transferred to the Couva Magistrate’s Court and adjourned to 3rd November 2025.
The investigation was led by Senior Superintendent Maharaj, Superintendent Pariman, and Assistant Superintendent Narine, under the supervision of Inspector Lazarus.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has advised members of the public to take precaution when purchasing used vehicles and to ensure all necessary background checks are completed to confirm ownership and authenticity before completing transactions.
