Trinidad and Tobago will return under a Hot Spell Alert from 10 am tomorrow (October 7), according to the latest alert from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS).
In their updated Hot Spell Alert #2 yesterday morning, the TTMS said, “For the next 24 to 30 hours, rainfall and cloudy conditions will provide a welcome reprieve from the prevailing heat. Although there is a temporary respite from the high temperatures, it is essential to note that such rainfall events are expected to occur less frequently than usual during the course of this month.”
The Hot Spell Alert continues until October 31.
The TTMS added, “Following this brief relief, a return to hot weather conditions is anticipated. As we progress through the month of October, daily temperatures in Trinidad are projected to reach approximately 34.0°C or higher, while Tobago is expected to experience temperatures around 33.0°C and above.”
During the hottest times of the day, between 10 am and 4 pm, maximum temperatures in cities, urban and built-up areas are expected to be higher than 34.0 °C and “feel-like” temperatures will likely range between 34.0 °C and 44.0 °C, according to the TTMS forecast.
The Met Office also said, “Elevated temperatures, coupled with tropical moisture and light winds, are the primary drivers of intense, isolated daytime thunderstorms. Additionally, rainfall events, such as what is currently being experienced, may still provide brief relief from the intense heat. However, hot conditions are likely to return once these events pass.”
The TTMS advised the public to “maintain vigilance and readiness for fluctuating weather patterns during this heat season.”
Meanwhile, the Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) remains in effect for the country through 5 pm today, as trailing showers and thunderstorms following the passage of a tropical wave continue to affect T&T.
