Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox received a courtesy call on Wednesday from the District Governor of Rotary District 7030, Brian Glasgow of St Vincent and the Grenadines to discuss ways in which both parties can assist and empower a key stakeholder of both organisations – the vulnerable. Rotary District 7030 has 75 clubs spanning across 17 countries.
During the meeting, Glasgow told the Minister that regardless of the geographical location, all regions encounter the same challenges. Mr. Glasgow also indicated that the Rotary Clubs conduct a Community Needs Assessment working closely with Ministries and other professionals to understand the needs of the communities when coordinating the execution of their various projects. He further added that the relationship between the Rotary Club and ministries such as the MSDFS are critical to the undertaking of meaningful and impactful projects.
Minister Cox commended the organization for their diverse offerings to the vulnerable adding that the Ministry’s services target the poor and vulnerable including inter alia persons with disabilities, older persons, families, persons with HIV/AIDS and the socially displaced. She added that there exist areas for collaboration including those offered by the National Services Division. She added that she was particularly pleased with initiatives that promote peace, resiliency, and mental health awareness.
