The potential for future collaboration in this country’s downstream gas industry was part of discussions recently between high level officials from the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries and Methanex Trinidad Limited.

A release from the Ministry reports that Minister Ernesto Kesar, Minister in the Ministry of Energy, along with Karinsa Tulsie, Permanent Secretary (Ag.), and Marc Rudder, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag.) met recently with Dean Richardson, Senior Vice President, Methanex Corporation and Colin Bain, Managing Director and President of Methanex Trinidad Limited.

The meeting was held on May 29, 2025, at the Ministry’s offices at the International Waterfront Complex in Port-of-Spain.

According to the release, Minister Kesar acknowledged the importance of Methanex to Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector as a major player in the downstream sector, and as a major producer of methanol both locally and globally.

Methanex has operated in this country for 25 years.

“The Honourable Minister received a high-level overview of the operations of the company and during the meeting, areas in which further collaboration could be pursued were discussed,” the Ministry reports.

The Ministry notes that the Methanex officials also underscored the importance of the company’s T&T operations to its global portfolio.

They also highlighted their approach to pursuing the transition to a low-carbon economy, and welcomed continued collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries in this area.

The Energy Ministry release says Minister Kesar commended Methanex for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and education and training initiatives.

“Minister Kesar reiterated the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to working with stakeholders such as Methanex to ensure a sustainable downstream gas industry, for the benefit of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,” the release added.
