Ministry of National Security and Ministry of Finance to collaborate in the fight against crime

The Min­istry of Fi­nance and the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty have signed a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MOU) which en­ables the shar­ing of in­for­ma­tion and in­tel­li­gence to in­ves­ti­gate mat­ters re­lat­ed to Traf­fick­ing in Per­sons (TiPs), mon­ey laun­der­ing, ter­ror­ist fi­nanc­ing, pro­lif­er­a­tion of weapons of mass de­struc­tion and oth­er re­lat­ed crim­i­nal mat­ters.  

The fol­low­ing is a press re­lease from the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty:  

 Ef­forts to strength­en co­op­er­a­tion be­tween the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty’s Counter Traf­fick­ing Unit (CTU) and the Min­istry of Fi­nance’s Fi­nan­cial In­tel­li­gence Unit of Trinidad and To­ba­go (FI­UTT) are un­der­way, fol­low­ing the sign­ing of a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MOU) be­tween the two par­ties. 

 The MOU en­ables the shar­ing of in­for­ma­tion and in­tel­li­gence for the pur­pose of in­ves­ti­gat­ing mat­ters re­lat­ed to Traf­fick­ing in Per­sons (TiPs), mon­ey laun­der­ing, ter­ror­ist fi­nanc­ing, pro­lif­er­a­tion of weapons of mass de­struc­tion and oth­er re­lat­ed crim­i­nal mat­ters.  

Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary (Ag.) of the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, Mr. Gary Joseph presided over the sign­ing and was joined by Di­rec­tor (Ag.) of the Fi­nan­cial In­tel­li­gence Unit of Trinidad and To­ba­go, Mr. Nigel Stod­dard for a brief Sign­ing Cer­e­mo­ny on Mon­day Oc­to­ber 17, 2022 at the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty’s Head Of­fice, Tem­ple Court 1, Aber­crom­by Street, Port of Spain. Dis­cus­sions fo­cused on en­hanc­ing the ef­fi­cien­cy and thor­ough­ness with which Hu­man Traf­fick­ing mat­ters are in­ves­ti­gat­ed and strength­en­ing the na­tion­al counter traf­fick­ing re­sponse.  

Al­so in at­ten­dance were Deputy Di­rec­tor, Counter Traf­fick­ing Unit, Mrs. Ki­moy Thomas-Williams; Da­ta An­a­lyst, Counter Traf­fick­ing Unit, Ms. Anush­ka Vil­laru­el; Di­rec­tor of Le­gal Ser­vices, Fi­nan­cial In­tel­li­gence Unit, Ms. Ky­lene Dow­den; and Le­gal Of­fi­cer I, Fi­nan­cial In­tel­li­gence Unit, Ms. Fran­ka Primus.
