The Ministry of Health (MoH) is advising the public to avoid using a particular baby formula that currently is the subject of a product recall across the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam.
It says it is issuing this advice out of an abundance of caution, although preliminary investigations indicate this country may not have received any of the baby formula in question.
In an official statement, the ministry says Reckitt—the manufacturer of Enfamil ProSobee Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula—has activated a voluntary recall of 145,000 cans of the baby formula, following confirmation that there was possible cross-contamination of two batches of the 12.9-ounce cans of formula with Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria.
The product was manufactured between August and September, was distributed to stores across the US, Guam and Puerto Rico. It has a use-by date of March 1, 2024, on the bottom, along with the codes ZL2HZF or ZL2HZZ.
“While checks made with distributors locally concluded that none of the formula from the recalled batches were imported into the country,” the statement from the health ministry said, “out of an abundance of caution, the Ministry advises persons who may be in possession of the recalled formula with the listed batch numbers, to discontinue use immediately and to return the product to the place of purchase where possible.”
The ministry assures it will continue to monitor the situation and advise the population as necessary.
