Opposition Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal said the Opposition is not supporting the Evidence Amendment Bill which will be debated in the House of Representatives Friday.

The Bill was passed in the Senate recently minus Opposition support.

The Bill, geared to aid the criminal justice and crime fighting system, facilitates admission of evidence via CCTV and other electronic forms to be used in courts, caters for evidence by people under 18 and witnesses and also creates safety for evidence.

The Bill, which had initially required a special majority vote for passage, was amended. Its current form can now be passed by a simple majority and doesn’t require Opposition votes. But Moonilal said the UNC remains consistent with its initial opposition to the Bill "and our legal minds will speak on it today.”
