Calling the Cambridge Analytica scandal a hoax and a set of hogwash, Oropouche MP Dr Roodal Moonilal yesterday denied that the UNC had any contract or contact with the company to spy on citizens.
Speaking at the UNC's cottage meeting at Soledad Road, Claxton Bay on Thursday night, Moonilal said Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Minister of National Security Stuart Young were trying to create mass hysteria by making unfounded allegations.
"They came with this hogwash. Ninety per cent of people don't even know what is Cambridge Analytica. We know what is Cambridge University. They talk about data mining and say when we were in office we had a company come in to dig up in your phone. What nonsense, " Moonilal charged as the crowds applauded.
He added, "Let me say categorically that the UNC and the PP government had absolutely nothing to do with Cambridge Analytica or any of its companies. That is the most stupid thing I ever heard," Moonilal said.
He added, "We had no contact, no invoice, no documents, no receipt, nothing, nada, nahin with this company.
This is an ugly and stupid distraction by Rowley and Young," Moonilal added.
Saying he sat on a Joint Select Committee of National Security for two years looking at this Cambridge Analytica matter, Moonilal said, "I ask you what has come out if that? Nothing! You read the news and watch TV, have you seen any document or evidence of any wrongdoing? " Moonilal asked.
He added, "This is a distraction away from the 455 murders, from the closure of YARA which they knew about several weeks now so they time the Cambridge Analytica story to take away from the suffering of the workers and their families."
Saying the Commissioner of Police will investigate the allegations, Moonilal said, "Imagine they give the CoP Griffth a book and say investigate. That is how stupid this is. We support the move by the CoP to seek out (name called) first! If he knows what happen then tell the police."
