Additional parking measures have been implemented in Port-of-Spain over the next two days to cater to the influx of people flooding the capital during the hectic Carnival period.
Port-of-Spain Major Joel Martinez has given approval for parking at Nelson Mandela
Park on Carnival Monday from 1 am to 11 pm and on Carnival Tuesday from 5 am to 11 pm.
A fee of $50 per day or any part therefore will apply.
Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith has also approved the use of the Hockey Field, South Grounds, at the Police Training Academy, Western Main Road, St James, for parking on Carnival Monday between 8 am and 8 pm, and on Carnival Tuesday, between 6 am and 8 pm. A fee of $50 per day or any part thereof will apply and all proceeds will go towards the T&T Police Service’s Sports Club, a statement said.
It added that the move was aimed at easing the traffic congestion on the streets around the city.
Motorists are also urged to follow the published parking and traffic restrictions for
the Port-of-Spain district on Carnival Monday and Tuesday or risk having their
vehicles wrecked and impounded.
