Police are investigating an incident where six students, reportedly of the Moruga Composite School, brutally beat a teenager before following him to the Princes Town Health Facility, where they stabbed him and hit his pregnant mother multiple times on the head.
Officers of the Moruga Police Station confirmed a probe is underway and they are searching for the suspects.
The incident, police said, occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
The teenager sustained a laceration above his left eye and is currently recuperating at home.
In an interview with Guardian Media yesterday, the teenager’s mother expressed concern about her son’s injuries.
“That is a head injury, you can’t tell what happened. Right now, he is telling me all the teeth in his mouth are hurting. His head is hurting. It is very painful for him,” she said.
The mother, who did not want to reveal her name or her son’s identity, recounted that her 17-year-old son had gone to a shop near their house and, while returning, was assaulted by the Moruga students.
“He did not know why they attacked him. I later started to take him to the Princes Town Hospital. While on the way, he started vomiting blood. He fainted twice, and when we were at the hospital, the students came and started to attack him again,” she said.
The mother claimed the assailants used a sharp object to stab her son over the left eye as they sat in the waiting area of the facility. She said she received several blows to the head as she urged her son to flee and attempted to shield him from the attack.
“They had a sharp object in one of their hands. That is where he got that cut,” she said.
As blood began to spurt, the teenager was rushed inside for medical attention. He was subsequently transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he received stitches.
The distraught mother said despite being in a weakened state and barely able to walk, the students persisted in assaulting her son.
“The security stood by and watched. I need some justice,” she declared.
Meanwhile, a police report stated two students ages 16 and 17 were standing at the junction of Penal Rock Road and Moruga Main Road when they were accosted by some Moruga Composite students. Six additional students joined in the altercation. The confrontation escalated upon reaching the Princes Town Health Facility. Sergeant Othello of the Moruga Police Station is conducting further investigations.
