The group of Morvant Laventille Secondary School students who fed the homeless in Port-of-Spain last month, kept their promise and did it again, but this time with a Christmas spirit.
Form five students Shanira Flemming, Ephani Simmons, Kyrstal Joseph, Jermya Richards and Jaleelia Gulston carried out a Boxing Day (December 27) drive feeding the needy in the capital city.
The girls went to Independence Sqaure, South Quay and even Woodford Square.
Most of the money for this charitable event was donated by Good Samaritans, who saw their first endeavour via social media and reached out to the students and their teacher Stephon Felmine.
In all, $1,000 was donated.
The students were able to feed approximately 50 homeless people. The girls wanted to ensure that the homeless ate a proper Christmas meal, so they prepared Christmas rice, baked chicken, potato pie, fresh salad and pigeon peas, along with juice to wash it all down.
Their families contributed the additional funds to help the group.
They documented the activity and Felmine posted it on his social media page. His followers were delighted to see the video.
“Excellent job ladies, beautiful hearts,” Veena Maraj said.
“Dare to be and make a difference. I love this,” Jermeilla Kerr added.
At the end of the video, the young girls thanked everyone who donated to the cause.
The girls rose the prominence in November when they used their own funds to feed the needy in Port-of-Spain. Back then, their funds could only afford them water, juice, bread and a few snacks for the homeless people they found during the effort.
