Aiden Eugene is one of the shining stars of Morvant.
The 18-year-old was brought to the attention of Trinidad and Tobago when his photo was posted online by the National Petroleum Company where he currently works and his success at CSEC and now his pursuance of his Bachelor’s Degree in software engineering at the University of T&T.
Aiden story started back when he was 13 years old, the past student of St Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Trincity, and then Lower Morvant Government Primary School fell in love with computers and since then the love between him and computers has grown into his career pathway.
Aiden’s love even had his parents purchase his first computer after they saw his passion for IT and since that tender age, everything that Aiden does must be surrounded by computers.
The young man, very shy with Guardian Media, said that a year ago, he got seven subjects at the CSEC examinations and he was only aware of his fame and success when it was posted.
Aiden is a pump attendant at the Laventille Service Station and lives at Second Caledonia, Morvant.
The past St George’s College student said, “The post online was honestly not for attention but it was more for doing it for the ethics and no matter where you have placed its all about what you do and how you carry about yourself no matter the circumstances and even though I was recognised for my good work and a customer felt compelled to post it on social media and then my bosses.”
As Aiden pursues his tertiary studies, he is now going to university part-time so that he can maintain himself via his job and it’s also a place where he can network.
“I am happy that my story is a positive message and I am trying to manage all the attention, I am very proud of where I am right now but I still think I have a lot further to reach”, he said.
The Laventille and Morvant communities are considered hot spots.
Aiden said, “It’s the bad news that makes the headlines and there is a lot more in these communities and there are a lot of gifted youths in these areas but they don’t get the attention so much because the first question is where you are from? and then it is cancelled, so what I would want the people to do is to look past the areas, yes there are the elements in the areas but if you really look deeply it is more than just Second Caledonia, it’s the people and everyone has a purpose in this life and allow everyone a chance to shine and you will be surprised if you give them a try.”
As he intends to graduate soon, Aiden already has some plans.
He said, “I will just like to fall in any occupation that is in line with my major be it a Software Engineer specifically or Information Technology Personnel or anything along those lines I would actively pursue and given the right environment to flourish that is really what I am looking for right now.”
Aiden spoke to Guardian Media while he was tending to pumps at the NP Service station.
His advice to youths in his community and the country at large is: “The sky is the limit, we are all young, the biggest mistake is to think that you have all the time in the world and don’t get me wrong there are times to play and have fun along with the pleasures of life but don’t waste time as much as you can try to use every second of the day towards something that brings you closer to your goals or closer to making the world a better place.”
