The home of a single parent and her six children was completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday.
The mother, identified only as Tisha, was not around when Guardian Media visited the scene of the fire. However, eyewitnesses said she was at home when smoke was seen coming from one of the rooms at the house.
A close female relative who lives nearby said Tisha’s children are between the ages of four and 16 years old.
“She went somewhere, maybe by her brother, but all we know is that she needs help to rebuild and help for her children. No one was injured during the fire. In fact most of the children were already at school as the fire occurred sometime after 8 am,” the relative said.
A neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said since the fire, Tisha and her children have been seeking refuge at her father’s house and the homes of other relatives.
Officials from the Fire Prevention Unit are still investigating and are yet to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
