Motorist dies in crash on way to drug store

A San Fer­nan­do man died af­ter he lost con­trol of his car and smashed in­to five oth­er ve­hi­cles on Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice be­lieve Ger­ard Du­mas, 67, of Hillview Gar­dens, Green Acres, died while head­ing to a drug store to get med­ica­tion.

Eye­wit­ness Mar­vin Wal­drop said Du­mas, al­so known as Jim­my, was dri­ving along Sut­ton Street when the ac­ci­dent oc­curred.

“I was com­ing down the hill from Char­lie’s Pud­ding and then I saw a ve­hi­cle speed­ing from Irv­ing Park. I jumped out of the way, and then he hit Raj’s car with an im­pact. His car then spun in the air and land­ed on the hood on the op­po­site side of the road,” he said.

Wal­drop said by­standers rushed to as­sist Du­mas and hur­ried­ly pulled him out of the car but he was al­ready dead.

His rel­a­tives ar­rived at the scene but de­clined to com­ment.

An au­top­sy is ex­pect­ed to be done on the body on Mon­day. San Fer­nan­do Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
