Min­is­ter of Works and Trans­port Ro­han Sinanan has re­spond­ed to Cou­va North MP Ravi Rati­ram who yes­ter­day called on the Min­istry to clear the col­lapsed con­crete base of the Roops­ingh Road Bridge.

Rati­ram wor­ried the col­lapsed sec­tion could cause block­age of the La Cue­sa Riv­er and pose a sig­nif­i­cant threat to the safe­ty and well-be­ing of the com­mu­ni­ty.

In a re­sponse Sinanan said the Bai­ley bridge is un­der the Cou­va Tabaquite Tal­paro Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion and the Min­istry is wait­ing for their say be­fore work can be­gin.

“The Min­istry of Works pro­vid­ed tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance to as­sem­ble the bridge on­ly,” he ex­plained. “The La Cue­sa Riv­er is be­ing cleaned by the Drainage Di­vi­sion how­ev­er, the MOWT had ad­vised the MP pre­vi­ous­ly, that in or­der to re­move the rub­ble, the Bai­ley bridge need­ed to be dis­man­tled and re­moved, to get ac­cess to re­move the de­bris. The CT­TRC has to ad­vise when this ex­er­cise can be done, to fa­cil­i­tate the re­moval of the de­bris.”
