The Ministry of Works and Transport will close the portion of the Uriah Butler Highway (2.4 km mark south-bound lane, in the vicinity of Grand Bazaar), from 9:00 pm on Friday 16 to 12:00 pm on Sunday 18 August 2024.
In an advisory, the Ministry says this section of the Highway will be closed as it pursues emergency drainage works.
Alternative routes are available through the Highway Parallel Access Road, onto Bamboo #3 Boulevard.
A video that went viral on social media earlier this week showed a sinkhole forming in the area.
Several drivers, unaware of the depression drove over the area damaging their cars.
The public is being encouraged to follow the alternative routes and comply with the following directions:
● Proceed with extreme caution and observe all directional signs and barriers.
● Parking will not be permitted along the access road to access the Uriah Butler Highway.
● Comply with instructions issued by Police Officers and Traffic Wardens, where necessary, to facilitate a safe and orderly flow of traffic.
● Be aware of heavy equipment entering and exiting the work site.
