Rodney Charles wrote to Minister Rohan Sinanan pleading for help for the constituents of the areas affected by the heavy flooding. He indicated that nothing has been done as yet to solve the ongoing issues. The following is a press release from the MP.

MP Charles is calling on Minister Sinanan to bring relief to the 300 homes severely affected by flooding in Ben Lomond, Harmony Hall and Reform following last week’s rains.

The Guaracara River is in need of immediate dredging and desilting to alleviate this issue. Minister Sinanan indicated that this was on the agenda since 2019 under the flood mitigation and erosion control programme. However, two years later, residents still face this river breaking its banks every time it rains heavily.

Further to this, MP Charles wrote a letter to the Ministry of Works and Transport in September2020 to highlight the plight of constituents of Ben Lomond, Hardbargain and Williamsville who have been affected by flooding due to the blockage of this major water course. Almost a year later and nothing has been done.

Some flood victims have lost thousands in crops, livestock and personal belongings. It is intolerable that there is still no relief for flood victims.

MP Charles is calling on the Minister to fulfil his promise. The constituents of Naparima have been victims of the Government’s neglect for far too long.
