Member of Parliament for Point Fortin Paula Gopee-Scoon is urging her constituents to be contented with what they have and make the most of it.
Gopee-Scoon, also Minister of Foreign Affairs, said: "They (constituents) were going through a little bit of a gloomy period." She told constituents to be patient. "You can ask for things, but do not make any demands," Gopee-Scoon said. Her comments followed concerns from constituents about the state of the New Village Recreation Ground on Pilgrim Street, Point Fortin. Gopee-Scoon spoke shortly before she switched on new street lights at the recreation ground.
Users of the facility said the ground needed to be raised and proper drainage installed. Point Fortin Mayor Victor Mitchell criticised the state of sporting facilities in the borough. He said it was a pity the borough's grounds, including the famous Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin, which produced some of the country's top athletes, were now filled with grass and cow sheds. He called for all the grounds to be lit up. Gopee-Scoon said there was no need to protest and promised to look into the concerns expressed by residents. She said a lot of positive things were happening in Point Fortin.
