The Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) marked Labour Day by calling for peace, unity, and renewed struggle. The party described the last decade under the former PNM government as “a vicious attack” on labour, citing mass retrenchments at Petrotrin, TSTT, UTT, and TIDCO, along with delayed wage negotiations.

Political Leader David Abdulah said the April 28 general election gave the working class a vital victory, ushering trade unionists into Parliament, one of whom now sits in Cabinet.

“This space presents a major opportunity: to engage in advocacy, supported by the trade union reps in government… and raise consciousness,” it said.
