A 49-year-old man is in po­lice cus­tody, af­ter he re­port­ed­ly stabbed an­oth­er man to death fol­low­ing an ar­gu­ment near a Tacarigua bar on Sun­day.

Po­lice said Nigel Fos­ter, 49, was lim­ing near a bar on Hug­gins Street around 6.30 pm, when he got in­to an ar­gu­ment with an­oth­er man.

Dur­ing the ar­gu­ment, the sus­pect pulled out a knife and stabbed Fos­ter once in his up­per leg.

Fos­ter ran away be­fore col­laps­ing near the cor­ner of De­osaran Street, while his at­tack­er es­caped.

Of­fi­cers of the Arou­ca Po­lice Sta­tion vis­it­ed the scene with an am­bu­lance; how­ev­er, Emer­gency Med­ical Tech­ni­cians (EMTs) could not find any signs of life.

A dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer de­clared Fos­ter dead at the scene.

Hours lat­er, the sus­pect walked in­to the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion, where he was cau­tioned by po­lice and ar­rest­ed.

Sources said the sus­pect had sev­er­al mi­nor in­juries and was tak­en to the hos­pi­tal for treat­ment and re­mained un­der po­lice guard.

Of­fi­cers of the Re­gion II Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.
