While us­ing an an­i­mal to pre­dict a World Cup win­ner is not an ex­act sci­ence, the songs that get heavy ro­ta­tion dur­ing Kid­dies Car­ni­val are usu­al­ly a good in­di­ca­tor of who the fron­trun­ners for Road March will be.

“Come Home” by Nailah Black­man and Skin­ny Fab­u­lous was the lead­ing con­tender at the Ju­nior Pa­rade of Bands at South Quay, Port-of-Spain, and the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, yes­ter­day.

Machel Mon­tano and De­stra Gar­cia's song "Shake The Place" was in sec­ond place and Bun­ji Gar­lin's song "Hard Fete" was in third spot played by the road truck dee­jays for the ju­nior mas­quer­aders as they crossed the judg­ing points danc­ing in youth­ful ex­u­ber­ance.

Bril­liant sun­shine was the weath­er con­di­tion for the day at both venues as the young mas­quer­aders jumped up and pa­rad­ed in their daz­zling and colour­ful cos­tumes in front of the judges and ap­pre­cia­tive au­di­ence at South Quay and lat­er at the Sa­van­nah.

Clan Mas Pro­duc­tions' Trib­ute to the He­roes of Tra­di­tion­al Mas showed that tra­di­tion­al mas is in great hands and passed on to the next gen­er­a­tion with an "adult" blue drag­on lead­ing the pa­rade fol­lowed by three young red, blue and green drag­ons, with the lat­ter per­form­ing a tra­di­tion­al drag­on dance with full rolls on the ground.

A ba­by wear­ing a mi­ni African-themed top in a pram was al­so play­ing mas and salut­ed the judges and au­di­ence at South Quay.

Large band Ze­bapique Pro­duc­tions Ltd DAN-CE Know Your Icons took the stage with over 500 mas­quer­aders strong, with 400 cos­tumes be­ing do­nat­ed to chil­dren from 18 ar­eas in Port-of-Spain in­clud­ing Sea Lots, Beetham, Nel­son Street, John John, Gon­za­les, and Dan Kel­ly Street, Laven­tille.

There was a heavy pres­ence of In­ter-Agency Task Force’s (IATF) Hearts and Minds Unit of­fi­cers that were af­fil­i­at­ed with the band.

The wings of the red Sa­van­nah Flames cos­tumes re­sem­bled danc­ing flames in the bril­liant sun­shine, and the Sun Dancers rev­ellers' yel­low and red cos­tumes were made as if to dance in the sun.
