Nekeisha Caine and her ba­by boy, Ky­mani Joseph, will be buried in the same cas­ket on Tues­day.Their fu­ner­al ser­vice will take place at the Cor­pus Christi RC Church, Suc­cess Vil­lage, Laven­tille, from 12.30 pm.Nekeisha's aunt, So­nia Caine, said yes­ter­day Crime Watch pres­i­dent, Ian Al­leyne, has com­mit­ted to cov­er fu­ner­al ex­pens­es.

The 26-year-old woman died last Tues­day morn­ing at the Port-of-Spain Ma­ter­ni­ty Hos­pi­tal af­ter chok­ing on her own vom­it.

Her wa­terbag broke 24 hours be­fore and she was rushed to hos­pi­tal from her Trou Macaque, Laven­tille, home.Her fam­i­ly has blamed the hos­pi­tal for her death, say­ing if doc­tors and nurs­es had kept a close eye on her or her ba­by she would have been alive to­day.

Ba­by Ky­mani was Nekeisha Caine's first and her moth­er's first grand­child as she was her moth­er's on­ly child. Fol­low­ing the deaths, the Min­istry of Health promised an in­ves­ti­ga­tion would be done to de­ter­mine whether there was neg­li­gence on the part of the hos­pi­tal.

Health Min­is­ter Therese Bap­tiste-Cor­nelis told the fam­i­ly last Wednes­day if the hos­pi­tal was found to be wrong those in­volved would be held ac­count­able.So far three nurs­es and a Niger­ian doc­tor, who were on call at the hos­pi­tal at the time of Nekeisha death, have been ques­tioned by the min­istry.

Rel­a­tives said they were told the preg­nant woman com­plained about feel­ing up­set af­ter she re­ceived four IVs for in­duc­ing labour.

They said she was in ex­cru­ci­at­ing pain and had asked for a bed­pan in which to vom­it. With­in 20 min­utes of get­ting the bed­pan, a source said, Nekeisha Caine was dead.So­nia Caine said her niece's de­liv­ery date was Oc­to­ber 27 and she had no com­pli­ca­tions dur­ing her preg­nan­cy.
