Chaguanas commuters should see an ease in their daily traffic woes before the end of the year as a result of the construction of a new connector road and bridge on state lands in Montrose, according to Gopaul Boodhan, deputy mayor of Chaguanas.
Boodhan was speaking with the media yesterday, during a tour of the site on which the connector road and bridge are being built. He said the Chaguanas Borough Corporation had been clamouring for five years to have the bridge built and alternate routes opened to ease traffic congestion in the region.
He said when the infrastructure is completed by year-end, it would allow vehicles travelling from Montrose to bypass the Chaguanas and Montrose Main Roads and use an alternate route through Edinburgh 500. The new route takes commuters straight to the area below the Chaguanas Flyover or onto the Solomon Hochoy Highway.?Boodhan said this should allow thousands of commuters to drive into and out of the borough in less than half the time. Boodhan said other alternate routes and one-way streets would be opened in the coming months to ease the congestion in the busy central borough.
He said now was the right time for the Government to start a traffic warden programme in Chaguanas and that the wardens should play a pivotal role in monitoring motorists and ensuring that the laws were observed. The wardens would also control parking zones and one-way systems in the borough as well as assisting the police in keeping a lookout for stolen vehicles, said Boodhan. The deputy mayor praised Jack Warner, Minister of Works and Chaguanas West MP, for his input into the project.
