NGC and bpTT sign new gas supply deal

A new gas sup­ply con­tract has been signed be­tween the Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go (NGC) and bp Trinidad and To­ba­go (bpTT).

The sign­ing cer­e­mo­ny for the new gas sup­ply con­tract took place to­day, Fri­day 23 Sep­tem­ber 2022.

Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries, Stu­art R. Young MP, who was present at the cer­e­mo­ny, con­grat­u­lat­ed both par­ties on “ne­go­ti­at­ing, in a col­lab­o­ra­tive man­ner, a new gas sup­ply con­tract”, which he ob­served, “se­cures fu­ture gas sup­ply to … NGC…”

“This gas will be uti­lized for the down­stream petro­chem­i­cal sec­tor and elec­tric­i­ty pro­duc­tion,” the en­er­gy min­is­ter stat­ed in an of­fi­cial re­lease is­sued by the min­istry.

“The Gov­ern­ment of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go wel­comes this cru­cial fu­ture sup­ply of gas which is a clear and tan­gi­ble in­di­ca­tor of bp’s con­tin­ued com­mit­ment to Trinidad and To­ba­go,” he not­ed.

Min­is­ter Young said the new gas sup­ply arrange­ment “augers well for the fu­ture of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s en­er­gy sec­tor”.  The con­tract is the cul­mi­na­tion of ef­forts by the Min­istry of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries, the NGC and bpTT.

“The sanc­tion­ing of this fu­ture gas sup­ply was part of the dis­cus­sions that took place at the bp Head­quar­ters, St. James’ Square, Lon­don, UK, be­tween the Prime Min­is­ter, Dr. the Ho­n­ourable Kei­th Row­ley and Mr. Bernard Looney, CEO of bp’s Glob­al Op­er­a­tions on Sep­tem­ber 15, 2022,” said Min­is­ter Young.

The min­is­ter was present at that Lon­don meet­ing, along with oth­er bp ex­ec­u­tives, in­clud­ing An­ja-Is­abel Dotzen­rath, EVP – Gas and Low Car­bon En­er­gy.
