Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced that the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) recorded a profit after tax of $3.285 billion for the year ended December 31st, 2025.
Speaking in the House of Representatives today, Persad-Bissessar said the figure represents the highest profit recorded by the NGC Group in eleven years and is double the profit achieved in the previous year.
She described the NGC as the country’s “crown jewel” and said its performance remains central to government revenues, foreign exchange earnings, downstream industry development and job creation. She added that the results reflect both improved market conditions and a new approach to governance under her administration.
“This is not just a balance sheet entry. This is a clear demonstration of the enormous potential of Trinidad and Tobago when our national assets are properly managed, strategically guided and allowed to operate with a transformational vision,” she said.
The Prime Minister said the performance reflects strategic thinking, innovation and efficiency, and serves as a strong endorsement of the current Board’s approach to managing and monetising the country’s hydrocarbon resources.
Persad-Bissessar also criticised the previous administration, noting that the NGC recorded losses of $2.1 billion in 2020 and $1.3 billion in 2023. She attributed those results to what she described as poor decision-making and weak leadership under former Prime Minister Keith Rowley and former energy minister Stuart Young.
She said the government remains committed to strengthening governance, protecting national assets and ensuring sustainable growth.
