The National Hurricane Center says a tropical depression is likely to form later today if showers and thunderstorms continue to organize associated with tropical disturbance, Invest 95L.
The NHC, in their 2:00 PM Tropical Weather Outlook, says, “This system is expected to move westward at 15 to 20 mph and approach the Windward Islands by the end of the weekend, and hurricane or tropical storm watches could be required for portions of that region tonight or early Saturday.”
Development chances have been raised to near 100 percent over the next 48 hours and seven days respectively.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service says as of 2:00 PM, the area of active weather associated with the low was centered near 40 W longitude (near 2250 km), east-southeast of the southern Windward Islands.
They add, “At this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago.” However, they continue, “The initial outlook for Trinidad and Tobago is for cloudy skies with showers and a medium to high chance of thunderstorm activity by Monday 01st July 2024. Sea conditions are expected to become further agitated, particularly along western and northern coastlines.”
The TTMS says that “There are currently no alerts, watches, or warnings in effect for Trinidad and Tobago,” and they will issue another update at 8:00 PM tonight.
Meanwhile, the NHC has tagged another area east of Invest 95L, with low chances of development over the next seven days. According the NHC, “A tropical wave located several hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some slow development of this system is possible next week while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the central and western tropical Atlantic.”
