Nine Venezuelans detained in Palo Seco

Nine Venezue­lans were de­tained by San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice for il­le­gal en­try in­to
Trinidad on Au­gust 2nd.


Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 10:15 am on the afore­men­tioned date, an anony­mous caller con­tact­ed the San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice Sta­tion and re­port­ed that Venezue­lan im­mi­grants were seen com­ing off a boat at the Pa­lo Seco Beach.

As a re­sult, Cpl Ag Mon­segue and PC Clarke left on en­quiries and on ar­rival at the said lo­ca­tion, the of­fi­cers ob­served nine Venezue­lans, com­pris­ing of two adults, four teenagers and three small chil­dren, com­ing off a small wood­en boat.


On see­ing the of­fi­cers, the dri­ver of the boat sped off and es­caped.


The nine Venezue­lans were de­tained, tak­en to the San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice
Sta­tion, then con­veyed to the Siparia Health Fa­cil­i­ty for COVID-19
screen­ing and are cur­rent­ly be­ing held at the Erin Po­lice Sta­tion.
In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
