Officers of the Region III Homicide Bureau confirmed they have consulted the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in relation to the shooting death of 65-year-old Chaguanas grandmother Susan Medrano St Louis but said they have received no instructions to lay charges as of Monday morning.
Police reported St Louis and relatives visited a Cunupia doubles stand on Saturday morning when her relatives got into an argument with strangers over a parking spot. The argument escalated into a fight, during which two of St Louis’ relatives were stabbed.
Investigators said one of her relatives, a licensed firearm holder, then drew his Glock pistol and fired three shots at the attackers, accidentally shooting St Louis. She died at the scene.
Sources said homicide investigators met with the DPP on Sunday and were instructed to release the man pending further enquiries. Police confirmed the 36-year-old man was discharged from hospital after being treated for stab wounds. His pistol and Firearms User’s Licence (FUL) were confiscated.
Central Division police said the occupants of the Nissan Tiida involved in the confrontation remained at large up to Monday afternoon.
