Mother’s Day this year was nothing but loom and gloom for Rima Hosein, whose teenage son, Mikiel, was found dead after he went missing.
Her younger son, Matthew, remains missing and as Hosein explained, she fears he may never be found.
“I am not hearing from the police anymore on the case. After Mikiel’s body was found, I tried hard in keeping hope alive for Matthew but nothing yet, and it’s eating me alive. I grieve for my boys every day and more so for Matthew because I have no closure and no hope from the police. My calls to the police go unanswered and the police do not call me to give any update on the investigation,” Hosein said.
Matthew was last seen on August 25 and CCTV footage retrieved by police investigators showed him walking along the Freeport Mission Road at Three Roads Junction talking on a cellphone. The footage also had audio which captured parts of Matthew’s conversation.
Mikiel was last seen on October 31 in Chaguanas talking to a popular crime talk show television host. It is believed he was being watched by someone then.
His decomposing body was found at Woodford Park, Chaguanas, in November last year.
Hosein, who is unemployed, lamented that her sons used to be breadwinners in her household.
“When they get their little work around they helped me with groceries and things I need. Now I am left with no help. I cannot even secure a job although I’ve been trying to get one so that I can help out myself and take care of my daughter,” she said.
“My Mother’s Day would be perfect if at least I can get closure as to what became of my son, where is he. If there’s a body at least, I pray that the information can come forward so that I can get the body and be able to give him a proper burial,” she added.
Anyone with any information that can assist the police on the whereabouts of Matthew is asked to contact PC Stout of the Freeport Police Station, the nearest police station, 999, 555 or 800-TIPS.
Police sources at the Freeport station said they have no new information for Matthew’s case but assured the investigation is still ongoing.
