Trade and Industry Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon has promised to update the population “soon” on her promise to introduce measures that could make the increase in the price of flour easier for citizens to bear.

In a brief statement to Guardian Media on Wednesday, Gopee-Scoon said the Government has been busy as it has been doubling up on Parliament sittings as the sessions come to a close.

At a post-Cabinet media briefing two weeks ago, Gopee-Scoon said the Government was aware of the hardships facing citizens and would try to assist.

Her statement came just days after an announcement by the National Flour Mills that prices would increase by 33 per cent due to global wheat shortages and supply chain disruptions.

At that time, Gopee-Scoon was speaking during a post-Cabinet media briefing. She promised to come back to the population within two weeks with a solution.

“At this stage, we realise that we have to try to assist especially with this very basic item, the Ministry of Finance, the rest of the Government, the Cabinet, we are reviewing what the possibilities are but understanding the complexities in determining what’s the right solution,” she said at that time.
