Officers charge man with six counts of vehicle larceny

North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion of­fi­cers say they have made a ma­jor break­through in solv­ing sev­er­al re­ports of mo­tor ve­hi­cle lar­ce­ny in the Tu­na­puna and Arou­ca dis­tricts, with the ar­rest of a 20-year-old man.

Roland Moone­sar, of El Do­ra­do, was charged with six counts of Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Lar­ce­ny and two counts of Lar­ce­ny, when he ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter Shah on Mon­day.

The ac­cused plead­ed not guilty to the charges and was grant­ed bail with sure­ty in the sum of $550,000 for four counts of mo­tor ve­hi­cle lar­ce­ny and two counts of lar­ce­ny. These mat­ters were trans­ferred to the Tu­na­puna Mag­is­trates’ Court.

He was al­so grant­ed bail in the sum of $150,000 with sure­ty for two counts of mo­tor ve­hi­cle lar­ce­ny, which were al­so trans­ferred to the Ari­ma and Tu­na­puna Mag­is­trates’ Courts.

Con­di­tions of bail in­clud­ed:

1. The ac­cused is to re­side at his ad­dress at all times and must make an ap­pli­ca­tion for vari­a­tion if he choos­es to change his ad­dress,

2. The ac­cused is to re­port to the Tu­na­puna Po­lice Sta­tion four days for the week, and,

3. The ac­cused was placed on a cur­few at his res­i­dence be­tween 6:30 pm and 5:30 am, dai­ly.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to March 20.

The break­through came on Feb­ru­ary 19, when a vic­tim made a re­port of mo­tor ve­hi­cle lar­ce­ny in the El Do­ra­do dis­trict.

An op­er­a­tion co­or­di­nat­ed by the Com­mand Cen­tre re­sult­ed in Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol (ERP) of­fi­cers re­spond­ing and re­cov­er­ing the ve­hi­cle with­in min­utes of the re­port be­ing made.

One male sus­pect was ar­rest­ed a short dis­tance away, while an­oth­er man­aged to es­cape.

Through the painstak­ing and com­mend­able work of Cpl Steven­son, of­fi­cers were able to charge the sus­pect in con­nec­tion with six re­ports orig­i­nat­ing out of the Tu­na­puna and Arou­ca dis­tricts.

High com­men­da­tion al­so came to PCs Trot­man and Lind­say of the ERP, who ef­fect­ed the ar­rest of the sus­pect with­in min­utes of the re­port be­ing made to the po­lice.
