A man was killed and a shotgun seized during a police-involved shooting in the Eastern Division on Monday morning.
According to police reports, officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department received information about a man armed with a gun in the Guayaguayare district around 2 am on October 27, 2025.
When officers arrived, they saw a man run into a wooden structure and retrieve an object resembling a firearm from under a bed. The man reportedly pointed the object at the officers, and several clicking sounds were heard. Officers gave verbal commands for him to drop the weapon, but he did not comply.
In accordance with the Use of Force Policy, officers discharged their firearms, hitting the man about the body. He was taken to the Mayaro Health Facility, where he died. The deceased has been identified as Ainsley Glenn Gonzales of Mayaro. A sawed-off shotgun was recovered from the scene. Investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, in the Northern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise in La Horquetta between 6 pm and 9 pm on October 26, 2025. During the operation, officers searched the home of a 27-year-old male suspect and found 1.175 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Maynard-Wilson, Superintendent McKenzie, Assistant Superintendent Pitt, and led by Inspector Gadar.
