More than 60 per­sons will be­gin the home­own­er­ship jour­ney in earnest when they re­ceive the keys to their new starter homes, un­der the Hous­ing and Vil­lage Im­prove­ment Pro­gramme (HVIP).

The keys dis­tri­b­u­tion cer­e­mo­ny is sched­uled for 10:00 am to­mor­row (No­vem­ber 15, 2023), at the Gov­ern­ment Cam­pus Plaza Au­di­to­ri­um, Port-of-Spain.

The 60-plus HVIP ben­e­fi­cia­ries in­clude fam­i­lies re­sid­ing with­in var­i­ous Bor­oughs and Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tions across Trinidad: San Juan/Laven­tille, Tu­na­puna/Pi­ar­co, San­gre Grande, Cou­va/Tabaquite/Tal­paro, Ma­yaro/Rio Claro, Princes Town, San Fer­nan­do, Pe­nal/Debe, Siparia and Point Fortin.

A re­lease from the Min­istry of Hous­ing and Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment has con­firmed that Min­is­ter Camille Robin­son Reg­is MP, Min­is­ter Adri­an Leonce MP (Min­is­ter in the Min­istry), as well as ex­ec­u­tives of the Min­istry and the Land Set­tle­ment Agency (LSA), will be present at the keys dis­tri­b­u­tion cer­e­mo­ny.

Ac­cord­ing to the Hous­ing Min­istry, “the HVIP is geared to­wards im­prov­ing the hous­ing and liv­ing con­di­tions of res­i­dents who re­side in vil­lages across the coun­try with ne­glect­ed in­fra­struc­ture and poor-qual­i­ty hous­ing, many of which are lo­cat­ed in rur­al and peri-ur­ban ar­eas.”

“The pro­gramme, which us­es a Vil­lage Based-Aid­ed Self-Help Ap­proach, aims to en­hance the phys­i­cal, hu­man and so­cial cap­i­tal as­sets of the com­mu­ni­ties,” the Min­istry ex­plains.

It al­so notes that in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Land Set­tle­ment Agency, it part­ners with the var­i­ous com­mu­ni­ties in or­der to pro­vide tech­ni­cal, fi­nan­cial, so­cial and oth­er sup­port.
