Penal residents believe 31-year-old Kamal Kaladeen was attacked and killed by a bison.

No one witnessed the attack, but Kaladeen had complained about the animals attacking him and a bison was seen roaming near his home.

Kaladeen, a landscaper, lived alone in a camp at Seebalack Trace, Rochard Road. His co-worker told police he dropped him home around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, but when he returned around 7 am the following day he found his lifeless body on the ground behind the camp. There were blue-black marks on his chest.

Residents complained that herds of bison have been roaming the Rochard Road community and feasting on crops. A 72-year-old resident, who did not want to be identified, said he had complained several times in the last year about being attacked by the animals.

Another resident said he was not sure who owned the bison because several people owned animals in the area. He appealed to the owners to secure their animals because they are destroying people’s livelihoods and are a threat to lives.

“It have children all over the place. We don’t know when they will attack,” he complained.

Residents appealed to the relevant authorities, including the police, to investigate, find the owners and ensure they are properly secured.

An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre.

Barrackpore police are investigating.
