A 77-year-old pen­sion­er died af­ter a wood­en struc­ture col­lapsed on him at his Pe­nal home on Mon­day.

He has been iden­ti­fied as Ken­ny Har­buck­han of Sat­nar­ine Trace.

Har­buck­han’s daugh­ter-in-law told po­lice that around 9.35 am, she was at home when she heard a loud bang in the yard. She called out to him but re­ceived no re­sponse.

Up­on check­ing the area, she found his body pinned be­neath de­bris from a small wood­en struc­ture. She raised an alarm, and rel­a­tives and neigh­bours as­sist­ed in re­mov­ing him from the de­bris.

Emer­gency med­ical tech­ni­cians were con­tact­ed and, on ar­rival, at­tempt­ed to re­sus­ci­tate him. He was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Guardian Me­dia vis­it­ed the home yes­ter­day, but rel­a­tives de­clined to com­ment. En­quiries are con­tin­u­ing.
