A 32-year-old Penal man facing the charge of robbery with violence was granted bail when he appeared before Master Shabiki Cazabon yesterday, at the San Fernando Masters Court.
A release from the Police Service says Lawrence George, of Clarke Road, Penal was granted $25,000 bail with a surety or cash alternative of $6,500. He also was ordered to report to the Penal Police Station once a week and have no communication with the victim.
George is scheduled to appear in court again on May 27, 2024.
The charge of robbery with violence was laid following an incident that took place on Saturday, April 27.
According to police reports, around 4:30 am on Saturday, a 38-year-old patron at a bar on Southern Main Road, Debe was approached by a man who allegedly accused him of owing him money. The suspect allegedly dealt the patron several blows about the body and relieved him of a cell phone, car keys and alarm, as well as a wallet containing identification cards and a debit card. The assailant then escaped in a vehicle.
The 38-year-old victim made a report to the Penal Police Station. He also visited the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Investigations by officers of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department led to the suspect’s arrest the same day (Saturday, April 27).
Lawrence George was charged subsequently by WPC Sheppard on Monday, April 29.
