Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles is expected to file her nomination papers later this afternoon, for the role of Political Leader of the People’s National Movement (PNM).
While nomination papers for different roles in the party's executive are expected to be filed, voting will not come until the end of the month.
In a statement on social media, the Opposition Leader said she was “willing and prepared to lead the PNM.”
She noted she has been a member of the party since 1991, and knew what was needed to rebuild the PNM and ensure their return to government.
In her statement, she pointed to her experience serving alongside former prime ministers and former PNM political leaders Patrick Manning and Dr Keith Rowley and sought the support of the party's membership.
Guardian Media understands that both Foster Cummings and Marvin Gonzales also will be filing nomination papers to contest leadership positions in the party.
