A per­ma­nent home for Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions in Ch­agua­nas is in the mak­ing.

The an­nounce­ment was made by chair­man of the Ch­agua­nas Car­ni­val Com­mit­tee (CCC) Re­nee Bai­ley on Sat­ur­day when the CCC held its Ju­nior and Se­nior Ca­lyp­so Monarch Com­pe­ti­tion at Ram­saran Street.

Bai­ley said for too long, cel­e­bra­tions had gone on in Ram­saran Street and the CCC had to con­stant­ly de­pend on the gen­eros­i­ty of the Pariag fam­i­ly to al­low the com­mit­tee to erect tents on a lot of land every year.

She said the CCC has en­tered in­to dis­cus­sion with the Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Com­mis­sion (NCC) for a venue.

She said; “We are afoot with the com­mit­tee in mak­ing prepa­ra­tions for a big­ger and bet­ter Car­ni­val. We have ini­ti­at­ed talks with the NCC for a per­ma­nent home for Car­ni­val. This venue ( Ram­saran Street) has so gra­cious­ly been loaned to us by mem­bers of the Pariag fam­i­ly, but to­day I tell you we have start­ed con­ver­sa­tions to have a home for Car­ni­val that would not on­ly in­volve Car­ni­val ac­tiv­i­ties but fes­ti­val ac­tiv­i­ties all year round. I ask you to bear with us and con­tin­ue to sup­port us as we con­tin­ue to grow our cul­ture in Ch­agua­nas.”

Bai­ley hint­ed that the fa­cil­i­ty may be lo­cat­ed at Con­nec­tor Road.

Bring­ing greet­ings Ch­agua­nas May­or Faaiq Mo­hammed said the CCC was do­ing an ex­cel­lent job to pre­serve and pro­mote the cul­ture of T&T.

The ju­nior leg of the com­pe­ti­tion was won by Mar­cus Mc Don­ald, a Form Three stu­dent of Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege San Fer­nan­do, who sang Don’t Spoil Them, scor­ing 244 points.

Mc Don­ald al­so won the Na­tion­al Ju­nior Ca­lyp­so Monarch and the Ju­nior Monarch at Cou­va.

He said dur­ing the last two years, dur­ing the pan­dem­ic, he had a tran­si­tion where he un­der­stood what peo­ple want­ed.

Plac­ing sec­ond and third re­spec­tive­ly were Kurlise Ben­than((240 points) and Zachary Ran­some (240 points).

The se­nior round was won by Tam­i­co Moore, who scored 252 points with Spicey.

Plac­ing sec­ond was Vi­van Lock­heart with 242 points for Young Pos­er and in third spot was Geor­gia Mc In­tire who earned 238 points for The Mes­sen­ger.
