A PH driver killed one of two men who allegedly attempted to rob him of his vehicle early yesterday morning.
Police identified the deceased as 21-year-old Ronald Singh of House Village, Coryal. He was reportedly the son of a police officer.
Investigators said around 5 am, the PH driver was plying his white Nissan Y12 AD Wagon for hire when he picked up two passengers at Bar 69 and Lounge along the Eastern Main Road, Guaico. When asked where they were going, the men told him to take them to Guaico Tamana Road.
Roopan proceeded along Guaico Tamana Road as requested.
Police said that upon reaching the vicinity of Hometown Supermarket along Guaico Tamana Road, the men asked the driver to stop. He complied, and the front-seat passenger allegedly struck him in the mouth with a Rudeboy glass bottle, causing injuries.
The passenger then allegedly attempted to climb into the driver’s seat. Roopan armed himself with a fillet knife that was in the driver’s side door pocket and stabbed the man once in the upper right chest area.
Police said the two men then exited the vehicle, with one collapsing. The other man ran off.
Roopan drove to the Sangre Grande Police Station, where he made a report and handed over a red-handled knife.
