Minister in the Ministry of Housing Phillip Edward Alexander has declared his full support for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, a day after she reprimanded him over controversial remarks about Venezuela.
In a social media post, Alexander wrote, “Big men take their missteps as learning opportunities. Ego is for kids. I support Kamla Persad Bissessar 100%.”
Persad-Bissessar distanced her Government from Alexander’s comments yesterday, after he suggested that India might use nuclear weapons against Venezuela in defence of Trinidad and Tobago’s East Indian population.
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez condemned the statement, branding Alexander a pawn of the United States.
“I do not share his views. I have since told him he needs to stay in his zone. Let’s hope he complies, but the Cabinet, my government, we do not share the views expressed by that honourable minister,” Persad-Bissessar said.
