Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Hous­ing Phillip Ed­ward Alexan­der has de­clared his full sup­port for Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar, a day af­ter she rep­ri­mand­ed him over con­tro­ver­sial re­marks about Venezuela.

In a so­cial me­dia post, Alexan­der wrote, “Big men take their mis­steps as learn­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties. Ego is for kids. I sup­port Kam­la Per­sad Bisses­sar 100%.”

Per­sad-Bisses­sar dis­tanced her Gov­ern­ment from Alexan­der’s com­ments yes­ter­day, af­ter he sug­gest­ed that In­dia might use nu­clear weapons against Venezuela in de­fence of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s East In­di­an pop­u­la­tion.

Venezue­lan Vice Pres­i­dent Del­cy Ro­dríguez con­demned the state­ment, brand­ing Alexan­der a pawn of the Unit­ed States.

“I do not share his views. I have since told him he needs to stay in his zone. Let’s hope he com­plies, but the Cab­i­net, my gov­ern­ment, we do not share the views ex­pressed by that ho­n­ourable min­is­ter,” Per­sad-Bisses­sar said.
