Homicide investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the murder of a Tableland pineapple farmer, after a gunman shot him several times at a relative’s home on Monday night.
Police said around 8.30 pm, Steven Ramoutar, 25, of Mc Sween Road, George Village, was at his cousin Dillon Justin Rai’s home next door when he was attacked. He was reportedly sitting in a shed when a gunman approached him and shot him several times before walking out of the street.
Witnesses saw the gunman enter a silver-coloured car resembling a Nissan note, with a registration which started with PDZ but the digits unknown.
When Cpl Phoolchan, PC Clement and PC Lake of the Southern Division Task Force responded to the shooting, they met Ramoutar’s sister, Liz Shabby, who reported she was at home when she heard several explosions. On checking, she found Ramoutar lying on the floor covered in blood.
She called out to her husband Shamad and together with other relatives, they placed Ramoutar in a white Nissan AD wagon. On their way to the Princes Town District Health Facility, Tableland police met and escorted them.
When a doctor examined Ramoutar at the health facility, he found the victim unresponsive with no pulse.
A report stated that Ramoutar suffered wounds to his right side chest area, right side back, right arm and left inner thigh.
The doctor ordered the removal of the body for a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
