Trinidad and To­ba­go, like many small is­land states, con­tin­ues to be neg­a­tive­ly af­fect­ed by cli­mate change.

On Thurs­day, Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley en­gaged with US Spe­cial Pres­i­den­tial en­voy for cli­mate change, John Ker­ry to dis­cuss ini­tia­tives in the ar­eas of methane and car­bon re­duc­tion.

These in­clude the use of car­bon cap­ture se­ques­tra­tion and uti­liza­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to a post on the Prime Min­is­ter's Face­book page, the meet­ing fo­cused on the use of cap­tured car­bon to pro­duce blue en­er­gy prod­ucts, re­new­ables and new­er and more ef­fi­cient tech­nolo­gies in elec­tric­i­ty pro­duc­tion.

Dis­cus­sions al­so in­clud­ed plans for methanol fu­el­ing and bunker­ing for ship­ping as Trinidad is well placed ge­o­graph­i­cal­ly and a ma­jor pro­duc­er of methanol.

Oth­er mat­ters re­lat­ed to en­er­gy se­cu­ri­ty and re­gion­al en­er­gy de­vel­op­ment were al­so dis­cussed.
