Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has described the late Lelamatie Sinanan, mother of Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan, as an exceptional and loving person.
Lelamatie passed away on Wednesday.
Dr Rowley spoke at the funeral service which took place yesterday at her home on Guaico Tamana Road, Sangre Grande.
He said he had the opportunity of spending time on and off "with this special lady" and that she was always the "life of the party".
"She was so cheerful. She brought happiness to everyone. She lived a life that she shared with all. She was an outstanding woman," he said.
He added that when these times come we must be strong.
“I knew this family for many years and we became good friends,” the prime minister said.
He added: "Today I want to say to the Sinanan family you are blessed by your mother’s life. May God bless you for what she was and continue to be."
Rohan Sinanan said his mother was very strict and used to ensure that they were properly dressed.
He recalled an occasion when his mother was taking his brother and himself to Tobago and she dressed them in a three-piece suit, which had the entire crowd laughing.
“I loved my mother for my upbringing, which was filled with values," he said.
Former People's National Movement General Secretary Deodath Ojah-Maharaj, in paying tribute to the late Lelamatie Sinanan, said she liked to cook and feed people and was always engaged in entertaining people.
"She was a community person and was loved by all," he said.
He added: "Lelamatie understands national service. She was loving, kind and embraced you all the time. She loved to hear people sing and was a leader in her own rights."
Lelamatie Sinanan was cremated on the banks of the Caroni River.
