Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has or­dered an im­me­di­ate stop to all fetes at the Bri­an Lara Sta­di­um, cit­ing per­sis­tent com­plaints from near­by res­i­dents about ex­ces­sive noise.

In a post on X, the Prime Min­is­ter said noise pol­lu­tion had be­come “un­bear­able” for those liv­ing in the area. “Noise pol­lu­tion is a nui­sance. I in­struct­ed that all fetes at the Bri­an Lara Sta­di­um be stopped as the noise has be­come un­bear­able for res­i­dents,” she said.

Per­sad-Bisses­sar said her Gov­ern­ment re­mains com­mit­ted to tack­ling the long­stand­ing is­sue of noise pol­lu­tion and its ef­fects on com­mu­ni­ties, not­ing that the prob­lem has been “ig­nored for far too long.”

She al­so an­nounced up­com­ing leg­isla­tive ac­tion aimed at curb­ing the prob­lem. “Be­fore the end of this year, we will pass the Fire­works Leg­is­la­tion in Par­lia­ment. In ad­di­tion, en­hanced noise pol­lu­tion laws will be in­tro­duced to reg­u­late des­ig­nat­ed qui­et hours, as well as new re­stric­tions on fetes, mu­sic trucks, res­i­den­tial par­ties, and bars,” she said.

The Prime Min­is­ter re­it­er­at­ed that her ad­min­is­tra­tion will de­liv­er on its promise to pro­tect cit­i­zens’ well-be­ing and en­sure greater bal­ance be­tween en­ter­tain­ment and com­mu­ni­ty peace.
