Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has ordered an immediate stop to all fetes at the Brian Lara Stadium, citing persistent complaints from nearby residents about excessive noise.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said noise pollution had become “unbearable” for those living in the area. “Noise pollution is a nuisance. I instructed that all fetes at the Brian Lara Stadium be stopped as the noise has become unbearable for residents,” she said.
Persad-Bissessar said her Government remains committed to tackling the longstanding issue of noise pollution and its effects on communities, noting that the problem has been “ignored for far too long.”
She also announced upcoming legislative action aimed at curbing the problem. “Before the end of this year, we will pass the Fireworks Legislation in Parliament. In addition, enhanced noise pollution laws will be introduced to regulate designated quiet hours, as well as new restrictions on fetes, music trucks, residential parties, and bars,” she said.
The Prime Minister reiterated that her administration will deliver on its promise to protect citizens’ well-being and ensure greater balance between entertainment and community peace.
