Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley today toured three UDeCOTT project sites in Port-of-Spain.
Dr Rowley met with UDeCOTT chairman, Noel Garcia, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Tamica Charles Phillips and Divisional Manager of Construction and Engineering, Sarah Scoon at the first site of the tour, the Ministry of Health headquarters at the corner of Jerningham Avenue, Queen’s Park East.
He was accompanied by Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Asif Ali.
Dr Rowley expressed satisfaction at the pace and status of works for UDeCOTT’s first ever Build-Own-Lease-Transfer (BOLT) project.

The tour then moved to the Port of Spain General Hospital Central Block, where executives of the North West Regional Health Authority, Acting CEO Major Anthony Blake and Medical Director Dr Shaheeba Barrow joined the walk-through.
Representatives of two experienced local contractors Kallco Limited and Universal Structures Limited responsible for the Demolition of the Old Central Block and Structural works gave in-depth details of the current status of the works.
The design team members present Mark Francois of Beston Consulting Limited and Richard Teelucksingh of ENCO advised the Prime Minister of the relative seismic codes governing the new construction.

The Prime Minister was on hand to witness a concrete pour on the first level of Tower 1 of the New Central Block.
It was then on to the Despers Pan Theatre project site, where UDeCOTT’s Senior Architect, Marlon Charles gave a presentation on the ongoing works, stating that the project would be completed well in time for next year’s Carnival celebrations.
The contractor on this project, Junior Charles Construction and Transport Services was also on hand to answer questions.
