Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley has told a PNM meet­ing that two per­sons were hired to as­sas­si­nate him in 2015 on the fringes of the gen­er­al elec­tion.

The prime min­is­ter made the claim as he ad­dressed PNM sup­port­ers at Pig­gott's cor­ner in Bel­mont, Fri­day night.

He told the meet­ing that both would-be killers chose not to go ahead with the con­tract.

He said Spe­cial Branch po­lice got in­volved when the sec­ond killer was hired and that while he was un­der their pro­tec­tion, he was un­able to go some places freely.

The prime min­is­ter said that he was mak­ing the state­ment, not be­cause he want­ed to be 'ir­re­spon­si­ble', but be­cause he want­ed peo­ple to know how far oth­ers would have gone to pre­vent him from be­com­ing prime min­is­ter.

"This hap­pened in Trinidad and To­ba­go in 2015," he said.

He said he was al­so mak­ing the state­ment as Chair­man of the Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Coun­cil.
