PNM can­di­date for Ca­roni Cen­tral, Adam Ho­sein, has apol­o­gised to Fa­ther Steve Ran­some and the Paris of St Philip and St James for shar­ing a video in which he par­took in a Good Fri­day pro­ces­sion.

Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment on the parish Face­book page, two weeks ago, a re­quest was made of Fa­ther Steve Ran­some by a sup­port­er of a po­lit­i­cal can­di­date, for the po­lit­i­cal can­di­date to at­tend the Good Fri­day pro­ces­sion.

Ran­some ex­pressed pref­er­ence for the pro­ces­sion to re­main rev­er­ent, with­out any po­lit­i­cal in­volve­ment, ac­cord­ing to the parish.

The church's state­ment said, "Against Fa­ther's in­di­ca­tion, the Po­lit­i­cal Can­di­date at­tend­ed the Good Fri­day Pro­ces­sion, to­geth­er with his video­g­ra­ph­er. The record­ing of his par­tic­i­pa­tion at the Good Fri­day Pro­ces­sion was cir­cu­lat­ed via so­cial me­dia as part of his po­lit­i­cal cam­paign. This record­ing was brought to Fa­ther's at­ten­tion on Glo­ri­ous Sat­ur­day, much to his dis­may. The ad­min­is­tra­tive/PR team for the Po­lit­i­cal Can­di­date was im­me­di­ate­ly con­tact­ed, and a de­mand for im­me­di­ate re­moval of the record­ing was made, and a pub­lic apol­o­gy re­quest­ed."

Ho­sein wrote to the church on April 19, say­ing, "it was nev­er my in­ten­tion to cause of­fence, to politi­cize the oc­ca­sion, or to im­ply any af­fil­i­a­tion be­tween the Parish Church and the PNM. I deeply re­spect the sa­cred­ness of the event and the role of the Church in our com­mu­ni­ty."
