PNM candidate for Caroni Central, Adam Hosein, has apologised to Father Steve Ransome and the Paris of St Philip and St James for sharing a video in which he partook in a Good Friday procession.
According to a statement on the parish Facebook page, two weeks ago, a request was made of Father Steve Ransome by a supporter of a political candidate, for the political candidate to attend the Good Friday procession.
Ransome expressed preference for the procession to remain reverent, without any political involvement, according to the parish.
The church's statement said, "Against Father's indication, the Political Candidate attended the Good Friday Procession, together with his videographer. The recording of his participation at the Good Friday Procession was circulated via social media as part of his political campaign. This recording was brought to Father's attention on Glorious Saturday, much to his dismay. The administrative/PR team for the Political Candidate was immediately contacted, and a demand for immediate removal of the recording was made, and a public apology requested."
Hosein wrote to the church on April 19, saying, "it was never my intention to cause offence, to politicize the occasion, or to imply any affiliation between the Parish Church and the PNM. I deeply respect the sacredness of the event and the role of the Church in our community."
