The People’s National Movement (PNM) is demanding full disclosure from the Government following claims made by former Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley during a media conference this morning.
In a media release issued by PNM Public Relations Officer Faris Al-Rawi, the party expressed grave concern over Dr Rowley’s account and said it fully supports his call for clarity.
The PNM is now calling on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in her capacity as head of the National Security Council, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, and Attorney General John Jeremie to immediately and completely disclose any information they have on the matter.
“The country must be told if, in fact, Dr Rowley’s name has been placed on an Interpol Watch List with the knowledge and or involvement of local authorities and, if so, when this happened,” the release stated.
The PNM underscored that Dr Rowley served in public office for over 45 years, including almost a decade as prime minister, and remained active in regional CARICOM affairs until recently.
“In the circumstances, it behoves the local authorities and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to treat this matter with extreme urgency and provide clarification and transparency to the former prime minister and to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,” the statement said.
The party concluded by saying it awaits a substantive response from both the prime minister and the commissioner of police.
